Beginning Design for YMS Shopbot and CNC Operation

During this 12 hour weekend class, students will learn

1.  How to prepare existing vector based design for V-Carve Pro

2.  How to set-up and secure materials on the Shopbot

3.  How to apply simple woodwork finishing techniques

At the completion of this class, students will have completed shelving to be used at Yakima Maker Space and meet the prerequisites for personal CNC (Shopbot) projects.

Goals of class are to give students a better understanding of the advantages as well as complexities of CNC operation and why good design is important to the efficient execution of their CAD designs. Successful completion of workshop will give students a basic understanding of YMS shopbot operation and overview of vcarve pro software.

Class will review an existing design file, build tools paths for the design, review the g-code and then execute the operation of that file. Objective is to provide a working understanding of CNC operation and production. The class will then assemble cut materials to illustrate the power of design to production using the YMS Shopbot.
